What Friends Are For ★★★☆☆

Review of 'What Friends Are For' which can be found here or on MySpace.

Length: 00:34
Genre: Animation
Date: 2005
Rating: ★★★☆☆

Logline: A comical example of when it's handy to have your best friend around.

I can't tell you who wrote or animated this short other than it's a product from Big Red Button. Whoever they are. So you can ask them if you like. Anyhoo, this will only take up half a minute of your time and may force a chuckle or two.

Animation is smooth and the drawing is simple but also stylistic and colourful. It doesn't look out of place in this genre. You could say there is a kind of school boy scribble look to it but again, as you watch the plot unfold, this too is quite fitting. This film is probably aimed at that age group (must be why I like it) and thankfully, the short length suits that target audiences attention span.

There's a nice set up with the photo of the grandmother and grandson beside the door, a great opening laugh and the unexpected pay off and repetition of the gag. No dialogue but cute sped up laughter is used.

You might have to turn up the brightness on your screen to get the best picture as the uploaded files are quite dim. Sound is fine with cartoony music and sound effects. All in all, a funny wee sketch.

Best Bit: Getting to see the granny fall down the stairs. Twice.

Worst Bit: Hard to read text on titles and credits.

Final thought: Who made this? Who?
