Genre: Animation

Rating: ★★★

Logline: A series of animated images representing life and death.

Yeah, am not very good with metaphors so this was a bit of a headache for me. Where to start?

This seems to be split into three different parts. The first could be about eating, ageing, and sex. Part two focuses on money, recreation and birth? And the third part about home, education and health. All of which is entirely open to interpretation by the way. I guess that's partly why I kind of like this. It can mean anything to anyone.

The opening image is an odd one and nicely sets the tone for the entire film. What goes on in the minds of these animators eh? The drawing has a illustrative style to it but there is limited animation and movement within shots. That isn't a problem though as too many things to look at would simply detract from the mind power it takes to figure out what the hell is going on. The colour scheme is vibrant and there is a progressive change in hue as we enter each part, somehow getting darker to reflect the mood.

The soundtrack is a repetitive hum which works well. Not very sure whether it's trying to represent anything in particular. It contains muted dialogue in there somewhere but you won't be able to make out what the voice is saying. It certainly adds to the surreal nature of the piece. Most individual images contain their own sound effects too which are subtle and nicely constructed.

Overall, make of this what you will. I can't help you.

Best Bit: Abstract audio and visuals.

Worst Bit: Haven't a clue if I'm reading it right.

Final thought: Perfect early learning cartoon for minors.
