Cream/Egg ★★★★☆

Review of 'Cream/Egg' which can be found here on Vimeo.

Length: 03:56
Written by Kerry Williams, James Spofforth and Ian Gamester
Genre: Comedy
Date: 2010
Rating: ★★★

Logline: A couple discuss starting a family in a rather round about fashion.

Character is key in this piece and there is good banter to be had between these two comedy characters. If you can get past the flamin' eck' broad accent, dialogue is one of the strong points of this sketch. Starring Kerry Williams and James Spofforth as the romantically entwined couple, both give solid performances and show good chemistry on screen. Line delivery for both is delivered fluent, natural and effortless. Spofforth stands out more due to his physical facial acting too.

One joke just rolls onto the next one making a nice flow to the stream of dialogue and showing clearly structured story design. Humour isn't all verbal, there's a good visual reveal at the end plus intercut cutaways which also enhance the adjoining dialogue.

Production quality is high all round. Great sound recording on the external shoot, picture quality is great, and the well paced edit adds extra life to the to the fact this is just two people sat in a car having a conversation. The restraints of this space restricted scene are dealt with very well and shows visual creativity as well. Overall, the humour is more clever than laugh out loud but provides a good example of filmmaking as well as sketch writing.

Best Bit: Shot composition and edit.

Worst Bit: Mandy's irritating whining voice.

Final thought: Kind of puts you off creme eggs tho, or blowjobs, one of the two.
